The Calouste Gulbenkian day celebration in Lisbon

Lisbon, July 20 - At the invitation of the Board of Trustees of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation Garen Nazarian, Ambassador of Armenia to Portugal participated in the commemorative ceremony dedicated to the day of the great Armenian benefactor.

The event was marked by the Gulbenkian Orchestra performance and attended by the current and previous Portuguese presidents, heads of the diplomatic missions accredited to the country, representatives of the civil society, cultural field, recognized public figures, journalists, and others. In his remarks, President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa of Portugal stressed the important role played by the Foundation in revolutionizing the scientific, educational and cultural fields and opening new horizons for research and innovations since 1956.

As part of the tradition, a mass took place in the church Igreja de Nossa Senhora do Rosario Fatima of Lisbon in memory of Calouste Gulbenkian with the participation of Archbishop Khajag Barsamian, Pontifical Legate of Western Europe. In the afternoon, His Eminence and the ambassador visited the exhibition of the drawings of the renowned Armenian painter of the 20th century Arshile Gorky which are being preserved with special care at the Gulbenkian Museum.
