On February 7, Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Paruyr Hovhannisyan received Madalena Fischer, the newly appointed Ambassador of Portugal to Armenia, on the occasion of the presentation of copies of her credentials.

The Deputy Foreign Minister congratulated Ambassador Fischer on her appointment and expressed his confidence that she would contribute to the further strengthening and development of friendly relations between Armenia and Portugal.

During the meeting, the sides discussed a wide range of issues in both bilateral and multilateral cooperation, including cooperation within the EU.

Paruyr Hovhannisyan briefed upon the consequences of Azerbaijan's blockade of the Lachin corridor, stressing that Artsakh is facing the threat of a humanitarian crisis. He emphasized that Azerbaijan's latest destructive statements and illegal actions seriously endanger the efforts towards peace and stability in the South Caucasus.

Both sides highlighted the importance of the activities of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and its role as a bridge capable of uniting the two countries.
