Meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Portugal

On December 1, on the margins of the OSCE Ministerial Council in Łódź, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan had a meeting with his Portuguese counterpart João Gomes Cravinho.

Emphasizing that this year marks the 30th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between Armenia and Portugal, Armenia’s Foreign Minister highly appreciated the friendly ties and partnership between the two countries.

The sides highlighted the importance of holding political consultations between the foreign ministries and organizing high-level mutual visits. They also considered the possibility of intensifying business ties between Armenia and Portugal.

Several international and regional issues were also touched upon during the meeting. In that context, Minister Mirzoyan emphasized the importance of deploying the EU Monitoring Mission in Armenia. The Foreign Minister of Armenia briefed his Portuguese counterpart on the ongoing developments in relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan and around Nagorno-Karabakh. Minister Mirzoyan reiterated the position of the Armenian side that Azerbaijan is obliged to withdraw its troops from the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia and cease its maximalist and warmongering rhetoric.
